7 bathroom trends for 2024

Cottage core

Cottage core has been trending throughout 2023 on social media, Tik Tok especially, and will be even bigger in 2024. 

Dreaming of a Cottage core bathroom design? Here are 3 simple rules to follow:

• Chose tiles that are a small to medium format: a mosaic pattern or a contrasting square format for your floor. For your wall tiles, a handmade small square tile is a perfect choice, otherwise you cannot go wrong with a classic glossy white subway tile. 
• Bring in natural materials: for that touch of warmth and comfort, add some timber to your space. It can be to your walls or ceilings with timber panelling or in the form of beautifully crafted timber vanity or even a recycled piece of wooden furniture. 
• Vintage style tapware: For a true cottage core bathroom, always chose vintage style tapware in a brass or copper colour. Aged finishes are even better. Stir away from ultra-modern tapware shape and finishes such as matte black. 

Darker and richer timbers

Over the last 2 decades, light timber has been at the forefront of interior design and by extension bathroom design. No one could get away from that oak colour timber.

Well, we have finally reached the point of no return as darker and richer timber are now a growing trend.

There are a multitude of home trends which resulted in this shift. 

First, we are all a lot more eco conscious and the recycling and upcycling of vintage pieces of furniture has increased exponentially in the last few years. There has also been a renewed appreciation for old furniture and wood craftsmanship popularised by growing trend such as the cottage core trend.

Darker and richer timber also lend well into the intention we have to make our interiors and our bathrooms, cozier and more comfortable as opposed to the sterile look of the early 2000s. 

Finally, darker tones have this luxurious and more sophisticated quality to them. 

How do you use darker – richer timber in your bathroom design? Easy! 

You can inject darker timber tones into your bathroom design in various ways. The most straight forward way is to choose a timber look or solid wood vanity in a darker or richer tone wood. You can also refinish an antique piece of furniture to use as a vanity for a vintage look. 

Another way to inject timber into your space is with wall or ceiling panelling for an interesting, natural, and almost spa-like look. This is guaranteed to give you that sense of relaxation every time you step into your bathroom.

Curves

Curves in our interiors have been around for decades but they have been growing in popularity for a few years now. From doorways and windows to pieces of furniture, we can all appreciate the ease that a curved line gives us as opposed to the strict sharpness of an edge. Of course, there is something very feminine about this trend, it is both appealing and soothing.

Bathroom designs have been embracing this trend lately and it will only get bigger in 2024.

Niches are always a very good way to add practical and beautiful storage to your bathroom design. They are not only a place to put your soap and shampoo bottles, but they can take your space from plain to luxurious looking.

Tapware are one part of bathroom design which have been going through many trends over the years, particularly when it comes to colour. We went from brass, to chrome, to black, to white, and even a dabble into coloured tapware. For 2024, the trend for our bathroom tapware is to go back to all shades of brass, copper, and generally warmer tones.

With a renewed interest into all things classic and antique as well as the new cottage core trend, brass is back to the forefront of our bathroom tapware. Forget the modern look of black, white, or wild colours and sticks to the classic and timeless style tapware. 

We are not only seeing classic colour tapware come back to our bathrooms but also classic and decorative styles of tapware. Now, in terms of shape you can opt for more minimalist look but there is a clear come back of classic and classic-inspired style tapware such as basins set with two taps as opposed to one mixer. This trend extends to all accessories in your bathroom such as rails, hooks or toilet roll holders. 

Now if brass and copper are not your cup of tea, don’t worry, you can never go wrong with a classic chrome tapware. And, if modern and minimalist is your aesthetic, opt for a brushed nickel or gunmetal colour. Neither of them will date your design.
